The story of this place
The Barossa Valley is Australia's oldest and most prestigious wine region, established in 1842 by German Lutheran settlers. The undulating vineyard landscape creates extraordinary pattern compositions, especially in autumn (March–May) when the vines turn gold, red and crimson. The heritage stone buildings of Seppeltsfield and Penfolds provide historic architectural foregrounds. Mengler Hill Lookout provides panoramic views across the entire valley. The region contains over 150 wineries ranging from family operations to major estates. The combination of agricultural patterns, heritage architecture and distant mountain ranges creates layered depth.
