The story of this place

Carrington Falls in Budderoo National Park consists of two main plunges totalling 50 metres, set within a deeply incised gorge of the Illawarra Escarpment. The lookout above offers an elevated wide-angle view of both falls simultaneously — a composition rarely seen in NSW. The cascade begins with Budderoo Falls before making the main drop into a circular plunge pool. During high flow after winter rain, the falls spread across the full cliff face. The descent to the gorge floor (steep, 45 minutes) reveals mossy walls, hanging gardens of ferns and fallen tree bridges — extraordinary macro subjects. The plunge pool is one of the few truly pristine swimming holes on the escarpment.
