The story of this place

Gibson Steps descend 86 steps from the clifftop to a narrow beach at the base of the limestone cliffs, directly opposite two of the Twelve Apostles stacks. This is the only location where you can photograph the stacks from beach level, creating a powerful scale composition with the 70-metre cliffs rising behind. Sunrise from the east lights the stacks' faces and produces warm reflections on the wet sand. The steps are occasionally closed due to dangerous wave conditions — always check before descending. A 16mm ultra-wide captures both the cliff face and stacks simultaneously.
