The story of this place
Glebe Town Hall opened in 1892, a grand Victorian building that reflected the suburb's prosperity and independence. For decades, Glebe had its own municipal council, and this building hosted council meetings, community events, and political debates. In 1949, the City of Sydney absorbed Glebe, but locals never lost their sense of separate identity. The hall's grand staircase, ornate ceilings, and polished timber floors speak to an era when local government meant something different. Today it hosts community events and wedding receptions—a genteel survivor in a rapidly changing inner-west.
