The story of this place

Hastings Caves and Thermal Springs contain a large show cave decorated with flowstone, stalactites, stalagmites, shawls and underground pools. The main chamber — Newdegate Cave — features a dramatic entrance shaft that floods with natural light, creating extraordinary sunbeam compositions at midday. The cave temperature is a constant 9°C. Underground pools within the cave produce mirror reflections of the formations above. The thermal spring pool above ground provides an unusual contrast of warm swimming water against the cool temperate rainforest. A tripod is essential as flash photography is not permitted.
