The story of this place

Hosier Lane is Melbourne's flagship street art destination, a narrow bluestone laneway between Flinders Street and Collins Street where every surface is covered in layered murals, stencils and paste-ups that evolve continuously. The art changes weekly as new works are painted over old ones, meaning every visit produces different images. The narrow width and tall buildings create dramatic shadow patterns from the midday sun. A wide-angle lens captures the full layered walls; a 50mm standard lens isolates individual works. The lane is best photographed on weekdays when crowds are thinner. Flinders Street Station's yellow facade provides a colour contrast backdrop at the lane's entrance.
