The story of this place

Jim Jim Falls is one of the most spectacular waterfalls in Kakadu National Park, dropping approximately 200 metres from the Arnhem Land escarpment into a deep plunge pool surrounded by massive sandstone cliffs. The falls are accessible only during the dry season (June–October) via a 4WD track and a challenging 1-kilometre walk over boulders. The surrounding cliffs create a natural amphitheatre that frames the waterfall. The plunge pool at the base provides a striking contrast between the white water cascade and the deep red sandstone walls. Twin Falls nearby offers an alternative composition with a wider cascade. The gorge walls feature Aboriginal rock art in several shelters.
