The story of this place

Kata Tjuta (The Olgas) is a collection of 36 domed rock formations covering approximately 21 square kilometres, rising up to 546 metres above the desert floor — 200 metres higher than Uluru. The Valley of the Winds walk is a 7.4-kilometre circuit that threads between the massive domes, providing intimate compositions of red rock walls, desert vegetation and narrow sky openings. The Karu Lookout (first lookout) provides a panoramic view of the tallest domes. The full circuit to the Karingana Lookout requires moderate fitness but rewards with the most dramatic narrow-gorge compositions. Sunrise illuminates the domes in deep red and orange. The formations are sacred to the Anangu people.
