The story of this place

Kings Park and Botanic Garden is one of the largest inner-city parks in the world at 400 hectares, overlooking the Perth city skyline and the Swan River. The Western Australian Botanic Garden within the park contains approximately 3,000 species of native Western Australian flora — more than two-thirds of the state's known species. The wildflower season peaks from September to October, when the park erupts in colour: kangaroo paws, banksias, wattle, everlastings, orchids and Leschenaultia create a tapestry of reds, yellows, purples and whites. The Kings Park Festival in September celebrates the bloom with guided walks and photography workshops. Macro photography of individual flowers is best in the early morning when dew still clings to petals. The elevated views of the city skyline from the park provide landscape compositions with wildflower foregrounds.
