The story of this place
Phillip Island's Penguin Parade is one of Australia's most famous wildlife spectacles. Each evening at sunset, Little Penguins (Eudyptula minor) — the world's smallest penguin species at just 33cm tall — emerge from the Southern Ocean and waddle across the beach to their burrows. Photography restrictions apply: no flash photography is permitted (it damages the penguins' eyes), and cameras must not produce any visible light. This means high ISO capabilities (6400+) are essential. The viewing stands provide elevated positions looking down onto the beach. Winter brings the largest colony numbers after the breeding season.
