The story of this place

The Royal Botanic Gardens Melbourne contain ornamental lakes, tropical glasshouses and extensive lawns that attract over 100 bird species. The main lake hosts Black Swans, Pacific Black Ducks, Dusky Moorhens and Eurasian Coots. The fern gully provides habitat for Superb Fairy-wrens and Eastern Spinebills. Rainbow Lorikeets feed in the flowering eucalypts each morning. Powerful Owls roost in the large fig trees and can be spotted with patience. The gardens are bordered by the Yarra River, adding river species to the count. A 400mm lens is ideal for most species; a macro captures the fairy-wrens.
