The story of this place

Russell Falls is Tasmania's most iconic waterfall and one of the most accessible, reached by a flat 15-minute walk from the Mount Field National Park visitor centre. The two-tiered falls drop approximately 40 metres through a gorge lined with enormous man ferns and towering Swamp Gums. The rainforest setting means the falls receive soft, diffused light even on sunny days. A viewing platform at the base provides the classic straight-on composition with ferns framing both sides. The middle track offers a mid-height perspective. Long exposures of 1–4 seconds produce silky water. The falls flow year-round with peak volume in winter.
