The story of this place

The South Bruny Lighthouse was built in 1838 and sits atop 120-metre dolerite cliffs at the southern tip of Bruny Island. The lighthouse provides extraordinary coastal photography with uninterrupted views of the Southern Ocean. The lighthouse itself — a classic white tower — photographs dramatically against the wild sky. Between May and November, Humpback and Southern Right Whales migrate past the headland and can be photographed from the clifftop. The walking track to the lighthouse passes through coastal heathland with wildflowers in spring. The surrounding cliffs are home to peregrine falcons and albatrosses.
