The story of this place

The Tasman Peninsula on Tasmania's south-east coast contains some of the highest sea cliffs in the Southern Hemisphere. Tasman Arch is a natural rock bridge formed when the roof of a sea cave collapsed, leaving a massive opening through which the ocean surges. Devils Kitchen is an adjacent deep narrow chasm where waves crash dramatically between vertical cliff walls. Both formations are accessed by short walks from the car park. The cliffs face east, making sunrise the optimal light direction. During large swells, the ocean erupts through Devils Kitchen with explosive spray. The dolerite cliff columns provide extraordinary geological foreground.
