The story of this place
Tidbinbilla Nature Reserve covers 5,550 hectares in the Brindabella Ranges west of Canberra, providing extraordinary wildlife photography opportunities within 40 minutes of the capital. The reserve is home to a breeding program for the endangered Southern Brush-tailed Rock Wallaby and maintains a healthy population of koalas, eastern grey kangaroos, emus and echidnas. The koala enclosure along the Tidbinbilla River Trail provides reliable koala sightings in eucalyptus trees at eye level. The sanctuary loop provides wetland bird photography including the elusive platypus in the Tidbinbilla River. The surrounding mountain valleys provide landscape compositions with abundant wildlife as foreground subjects.
