The story of this place

The Twelve Apostles are a series of limestone sea stacks rising up to 45 metres from the Southern Ocean along the Great Ocean Road in Victoria. Despite the name, only eight stacks remain standing — the others have collapsed to natural erosion. The main boardwalk viewing platform provides elevated compositions. Sunset from the west illuminates the stacks with golden light against the darkening ocean. A 200mm telephoto isolates individual stacks; a 14mm ultra-wide captures the full panorama. Long exposures of 30–60 seconds at sunset turn the crashing waves into a misty sea floor. The Gibson Steps beach below provides a dramatic low-angle perspective looking up at the stacks.
